New species of tyrannosaur dinosaur discovered by Badlands Dinosaur Museum

[Nov-25-2022] Researchers from Badlands Dinosaur Museum today published a research paper which describes a new species of tyrannosaurid dinosaur. Elias Warshaw and Denver Fowler named Daspletosaurus wilsoni based on a skull and partial skeleton from ~76 million year old rocks of the Judith River Formation, Montana. The new dinosaur is intermediate between two existing species, giving clues as to the evolutionary history and relationships of the tyrannosaurs.

My wife, son, his girl friend and I visited your museum. A question led to a conversation with Steve Clawson. Dr. Clawson was wondrously generous with his time. His description of exhibits and explanation of current work was both engaging and understandable. His narrative of the work getting the tyrannosaur, currently being worked on, out of the field and into the lab was fascinating. It made the time spent at the museum a highlight of a two week vacation that included The Badlands, The Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. Stiff competition to be sure.
